Core strength is the foundation of how Pilates works. Strengthening the core develops stability throughout the entire torso. This is one of the ways Pilates helps many people alleviate back pain.
Trunk stability through core engagement is the most important aspect of Pilates training since it dictates how the body moves, not just in the studio or gym but in daily life. For Joseph Pilates, the goal was to create a method that would allow the body to move with grace, ease, and efficiency. Such a body must be both strong and flexible, and it has certain qualities of movement, such as being centred and balanced; fluid yet controlled.

“ I joined Deanslade Fitness when it first opened . Unfortunately, I had to stop due to a serious medical condition. I’ve since had the surgery carried out and the medical staff thought it would be good for my wellbeing and balance to start doing classes again in August this year. I’m doing various classes from Yoga, Pilates and Conditioning, and have lost three inches from my waistline but gained weight in a healthy way. All the classes are very friendly, there is no peer pressure, and all the instructors are excellent, and extremely helpful. I would recommend it, too all ages and whatever level of fitness you are. Give it try, you’ve got nothing to lose!!!”

“ I have been attending Jo’s aerobic classes for a couple of years and can honestly say that she is the best instructor I have ever had.
She is inspirational and extremely motivational in her approach.
When I first started Jo’s classes I considered my fitness to be moderate but now due to her encouragement and leadership my strength and balance has improved.
Her classes are varied, challenging and person centred – particularly in my case she is very aware of my visual awareness needs. She ensures that I personally am able to participate in all aspects of the class.
I love Jo’s approach to fitness and always look forward to attending – I couldn’t imagine my life without her classes to uplift my mood..”

"I have been attending Jo’s fitness classes for approximately 4 years now. She is one of the most inspirational instructors I have come across. I am a retired physical education teacher myself so am well informed about fitness concepts. Jo is not only well informed with physical fitness knowledge but she is inspirational and motivational in the way she instructs her classes. No class is ever the same in its delivery- always different, keeping everyone’s attention and interest. Participants in the class want to work hard for Jo because her classes are fun and challenging. Everyone leaves the class knowing they have pushed themselves and at the same time really enjoyed themselves. This means we always want to come back for more- so attendance at Jo’s classes is always high.
An excellent instructor!
